Here are some suggestions for working with CAD

Press release: 14 October, 2021: Computer-aided design programs have been used extensively in engineering firms. We use them everyday for designing conveyor systems and various custom technologies, so at a minimum, some basic understanding and usage is required since drawings are handed from engineer to engineer. It can sometimes feel difficult to get these programs to work together. There are some ways to ensure that your software doesn't crash or become buggy. Most of these steps apply to the majority of CAD programs, and although certain people may find these suggestions are too easy but I believe they're items we tend to neglect or forget as we progress.

Save early, and save frequently

Murphy's Law is applicable to CAD programs. They have a tendency to crash and freeze and then lose all your work. You should also make several save files. A minimum of one per day is recommended. This will enable you to return to an earlier design. This will also allow you to keep track of your design changes during the process of designing.

Look for overlaps and connections

Take a look at what you've selected

When you are selecting an object in busy space it's quite easy to choose the incorrect object. It's even more frustrating when you don't realize the mistake and then you've altered the wrong features. AutoCAD allows you to control the amount of highlight that you apply based on where you move your cursor. The blue box indicates items that are totally contained within the box. The green box represents objects that are partially enclosed within the box. You can also pick items by pressing the shift key.

Control of layers

This is an important step in conquering larger drawings. It is possible to be more specific about the things you'd like to change in each view by using more layers. Creating these layers early also allows you to not have to return in the end and retroactively erase items or modify their layer. ALCAD is the most effective AutoCAD alternative.

Make sure you clean up your drawing

After you've completed your drawing, make sure you eliminate any features that are unneeded or trash. You should check your layers for leftovers from previous modifications. Make sure there's nothing forgotten in the outlines of the drawing that's not needed. A drawing is easier to read for others by removing clutter and lines don't get too interspersed.

Google it

I've come to discover that every time a person experiences a computer problem they usually exactly the same thing, freak out for 15 minutes to figure out how to fix it, then sit and think the issue is unique to them, and make a comment about being "cursed" with technology. If your computer explodes on its own, then you're not alone. Someone else has experienced the same issue before. Before you spend your time trying to solve your CAD problem, try the Google search. There are many forums that can assist you with any kind of problem. You should take this first step in case things go wrong. It will make a difference in your time.
